Thrash metal from Sweden
Swedish Thrash Metal force MEZZROW are currently celebrating their rebirth and second spring. With their reunion album „Summon Thy Demons” the quintet has made a statement and created its own manifest. After numerous live-shows and festival gigs at a.o. Keep It True (Germany), Muskelrock Festival (Sweden) and the Tolminator Metal Fest (Slovenia), MEZZROW have also released two more stand-alone singles, a.o. the GHOST-cover of their classic „Ritual“. The band have now taken all their newfound energy into the studio and with „Embrace The Awakening“ they present another raging piece of thrash metal, performed with the highest quality. Produced by the band and mixed & mastered by Ronnie Björnström (SORCERER, BLOOD RED THRONE, MESHUGGAH a.o.), and with a brilliant artwork from Pär Olofsson (EXODUS, ABORTED, TRAITOR a.o.), „Embrace The Awakening“ will be released on November 14th on ROAR (GRAVE DIGGER, CREMATORY a.o.).
MEZZROW built themselves a name in the thrash metal scene during the late eighties with their critically acclaimed demo tapes, „Frozen Soul“ and „Cross of Tormention“. In 1990 they released their classic debut album „Then Came the Killing“ through Active Records (CANDLEMASS, THERION a.o.), a subsidiary of Music for Nations. The album is still today considered as one of the best, if not the best, thrash metal releases from Sweden and Scandinavia. This classic album was re-mastered together with all their demos, and released through Hammerheart Records in May 2022.
During 2021 MEZZROW rose from the ashes, when bass player Conny Welén (ex-HEXENHAUS) and singer Uffe Pettersson (ex-ROSICRUCIAN) decided to make a new mark in the Thrash Metal world of today and have together with new guitarists Magnus Söderman (NIGHTRAGE) and Ronnie Björnström (ex-AEON) written new killer songs. “Of course we have a bit of a new and updated sound, more mature and dark, but it’s still old school thrash metal from the Bay Area that lays the foundation. We refuse to downtune the guitars and you can definitely hear what Uffe sings! Some of the songs are actually a bit melodic, but in a thrashy kind of way. So don’t worry, we don’t do any ballads”, comments Conny Welén. A new record deal was signed with Fireflash Records (HOLY MOSES a.o.) and their reunion album “Summon Thy Demons” was released in April 2023.
It’s a dream for every band to release a live album at some point of their career. MEZZROW did just that and released ”Keep It True - Live” in autumn of 2023 on a limited vinyl edition. It was the bands’s first ever show in Germany, the first one for the reunuon album and also the debut for their drummer Alvaro “Alvis” Svanerö, who entered the Mezz-gang as a full time member at this point. ”Keep It True - Live” will now come as a bonus disc on the CD version of „Embrace The Awakening“.
In December 2024, MEZZROW released a new digital single, called “As Fear Unfolds”, which was recorded during the “Summon Thy Demons” sessions and one of the first songs, the band wrote back in early 2021. The lyrics were actually written for another song way back in 1992. On april 30, 2025, MEZZROW surprised with "Ritual", a cover of mighty GHOST.
In the meantime, beginning as early as September 2023, MEZZROW started writing material for their third album. Eight new songs were later on chosen to become „Embrace The Awakening“, a Bay Area Thrash Metal monster made in Sweden! ”We wanted the new album to sound a bit more straight forward without stepping away to much from Summon Thy Demons. We feel that we’ve achieved that and at the same time kept our roots intact!“, comments vocalist Uffe Pettersson.
